Garden Makeover for Grayshott NHS workers!

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

We’ll always be grateful to the UK’s NHS heroes who continue to support us through this awful pandemic. And just at the time Grayshott was ‘Clapping for Carers’ on a Thursday night, garden centres around the UK had to suddenly close leaving them with huge amounts of unsold plants. Using our gardening expertise, enthusiasm and funding we wanted to provide a special thank you gift to local NHS staff whilst supporting our local gardening industry. So we took the opportunity to offer garden makeovers, helping to transform the ‘Hidden Gardens’ of local NHS workers into relaxing havens that even Alan Titchmarsh might be envious of!

Shout out to local NHS Workers

Following the success of our initial plant giveaway of mini ‘hidden gardens’ to key workers, the vulnerable and shielded around Grayshott; we asked Grayshott to nominate local NHS workers. We were thrilled to find two local families that we could give back to.

Our Thanks To Zoe

The first project was to build and brighten up a raised flower bed for a local nurse. Zoe said, “I was feeling very low today, and then I received your letter which has put a smile on my face. I am so touched and feel so privileged to be nominated. I am moved by the kindness and genuine offer of a Hiddens Garden grant”. Well we think you’re pretty special too Zoe – so a massive thank you from Grayshott for all the many hours of kindness you’ve given to us.

A Big Thank You to Rosie & Steve

Our second project was a bit more ambitious. Rosie and Steve recently moved to Grayshott with their young family and wanted to create a space they could relax in and enjoy as a family. The team set about enhancing the existing layout by cutting back overgrown plants, tidying up some of the landscaping and planting up several borders. The herbs and big bamboo proved a particular hit with the kids who are now budding gardeners. Rosie and Steve are delighted with the transformation commenting “We are in love with the garden, it looks so wonderful that I don’t know if I will ever be able to thank you enough”.

Thank You to All Those Who Made it Happen

Thanks to Allan Becker Landscapes, Avalon Garden Centre and Evergreen Garden Care for donation of their time, plants or products. To Vanessa, Karen and Suzie on the Hidden Gardens of Grayshott team for their garden design and toil. And to the people of Grayshott who open their gardens, run fun activities and bake cakes every two years to help us raise funds to support local projects like this.!

Want to Take a Look?

We’re hoping that you too might be able to visit our garden makeovers at our next open gardens event on May 30th and 31st 2021. So pop it in your diary and tell your friends.
