2019 - Our Best ever Hidden Gardens Event
Welcome to the Hidden Gardens of Grayshott.
This special insight into the private gardens in our unique village is only available for everyone to share every two years on the Sunday and Monday of the Spring Bank Holiday. All the money raised is re-sown back into our community garden projects for a greener Grayshott.
Hidden Gardens of Grayshott, sponsored by Warren Powell Richards, has smashed it again, not only with a record 36 Gardens, not only with over 1500 visitors all paying the minimal fee of £6 for such a treat, but raising a phenomenal £15,000!
Great news, but the real success is to all the members of the greater Grayshott Community who contributed far and away beyond the 8 Volunteer Committee members.
Primarily, thanks go to the generous gardeners who opened their gardens and hearts to the visitors, showing their diverse gardens as immaculate or otherwise spaces large and small, an amazing Forge, Roman Kitchen, the Firefighters of the village sharing their engine, the church and its bell ringers and the bee keepers highlighting the plight of bees. Quite a show and every small part appreciated.
Grayshott Pottery’s enchanting sitting piggies delighted the children who were hunting for them in every garden in anticipation of winning a piggy cup cake and the Fox and Pelican sponsored the 24 shop windows in the village who celebrated the event by decorating their display windows on a garden theme. After a visitors vote two shops were awarded joint first prize – Kaighan’s and Pins and Needles. Congratulations to both
The wider community came together too; enabling this event to be such a success, by baking cakes for the the teas, volunteering to serve them and sell tickets in the Box Office, donating their delicious home made preserves, fudge, mustard and other treats to the ‘Made in Grayshott’ stall and every purchase made given in a free ‘Grayshott Bag’ made in Grayshott to highlight the misuse of plastic.
The multitude of people wandering through the village smiling and chatting to one another was heart warming and probably the very best of what this successful event has to offer. Grayshott is known as a village that punches above its’ weight, but this hugely vibrant occasion just goes to prove it! One happy visitor commented ‘Grayshott is even higher in my estimation’!
