The Hidden Gardens of Grayshott celebrated a remarkable milestone over the bank holiday weekend with its 10th biennial event, attracting more than 1,400 visitors to the heart of our beautiful village. Held on the 25th and 26th of May, the event once again turned Grayshott into a flourishing showcase of community pride, horticultural talent, and warm hospitality.

This year’s event featured an impressive 39 open locations, ranging from tucked-away private gardens to community attractions and heritage sites. Some visitors made it their mission to see them all—and many came close, enjoying every minute of the leafy trail.

Each garden offered a unique experience, made even more special by the warm welcomes of their owners. Visitors were treated to personal tours, delightful conversations, and tips from the green-fingered locals behind each display. Homemade tea and cake, served under sunny spring skies, added to the charm, and the plant sales were a hit with bargain-hunters keen to take a piece of Grayshott home.

But the Hidden Gardens event offered more than just plants and pastries. The photographic exhibition by Ludshott Photographic Club drew crowds with beautiful snapshots. Meanwhile, the heritage trail gave guests a chance to discover Grayshott’s rich history. Children enjoyed a playful competition with fun prizes, and families had a chance to explore, relax, and enjoy time together outdoors. A highlight for many was meeting the volunteers behind the flourishing Grayshott Community Orchard, who shared stories of how they brought the orchard to life for all to enjoy.
A First-Time Volunteer’s Perspective
One of the many volunteers supporting the event for the first time this year was Lucie Thornton at Huntington House.
“I thought it was a wonderful event that really brought the whole community together,” said Lucie. “It was fantastic to see multiple generations of families out enjoying the day—children, grandparents, and even the family dogs! There was such a positive atmosphere everywhere you went.”
Lucie was particularly struck by how inclusive and welcoming the event was.
“Whether you were a local or visiting for the first time, there was a genuine feeling that everyone belonged,” she said. “It was lovely to be part of something that celebrates not just gardens, but community, creativity, and kindness.”
Community Spirit in Full Bloom
This special weekend wouldn't be possible without the tireless efforts of an enthusiastic army of volunteers, who worked behind the scenes and on the ground. Local shops and businesses also showed their support by decorating their windows and displaying cheerful event posters, adding colour and charm to the village streets. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone that got involved.
All funds raised from the Hidden Gardens of Grayshott go towards local gardening projects, helping to keep our village green and thriving year-round.
As this landmark 10th event showed, Grayshott is a place where community spirit grows strong—rooted in shared efforts, blooming through creativity, and flourishing thanks to the people who make it all happen. Here's to many more years of Hidden Gardens magic.
